FS ANC dispels social media rumours─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:29 Thu, 02 Dec 2021
The Free State ANC's Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) has dispelled social media posts doing the rounds that the swearing in of its convener in the Provincial Legislature has been set aside by a court of law.
IPC spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane, tells OFM News that there is no such court outcome and the case hasn't even sat for deliberation. Mxolisi Dukwana, who is now the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, became a member of the Provincial Legislature recently - and this move is being challenged.
Former Letsemeng Mayor, Thandiwe Reachable - who reportedly was next on the ANC list for a move to the legislature - has taken the matter to court to have it reviewed and set aside. Reachable accuses Dukwana of skipping the queue on the list but the ANC has refuted the accusations and says the list was gazetted twice in one year.
"The ANC Free State has noted with concern misinformation doing rounds that there was a court judgment that Comrade Mxolisi Dukwana’s swearing-in as a member of the Provincial Legislature representing the ANC was illegal. There is no such court judgment. The matter litigated by Ms Thandi Reachable on the swearing-in of Cde Dukwana has not sat for hearing," IPC spokesperson Khoabane says.
The matter is being defended by the Legislature and the ANC. Khoabane adds that the party will issue a statement once the matter has been finalised and Dukwana is still representing the ANC in the Legislature.
