Gauteng spokesperson, Kay Makhubela, tells OFM News that the ten suspects were apprehended in a house belonging to the female suspect in Orange Farm on the same day that the hijacking occurred. Makhubela says authorities received a tip-off just before midday regarding a house in the Gauteng Township, which was housing stolen cargo from a hijacked truck. He says various units within the police collaborated to effect the arrests.

“Eight suspects were found loading the stolen property into an Iveco and they were subsequently placed under arrest. The truck hijacking had just taken place in Cleveland, and the Sedibeng K9 unit joined by Crime Prevention teams further searched the house and two more suspects were found hiding in a cupboard. Two other cars were found in the yard loaded with more stolen property” says Makhubela.

More of the stolen cargo was found inside the Orange Farm house. The total value of this cargo is unknown.  Presently authorities are looking into the possibility that the group has been involved in crimes of a similar nature before, but for now face truck hijackings and possession of stolen property related charges. The apprehended group will appear in the local Magistrate’s court on Monday 6 December.
