IPID probes shooting of alleged BFN drug dealer─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 10:46 Fri, 17 Dec 2021
The Independent Police Investigating Directorate (IPID) is probing the circumstances around the gunning down of an alleged Bloemfontein drug dealer this week.
According to IPID, the incident involving the unnamed 26-year-old and the four police officers under the tactical response team, occurred on 15 December at a house in Rocklands.
When the police officers arrived at the deceased’s residence, they were met by pit bulls.
It’s alleged the police officers tried to gain entry into the 26-year-old man’s residence via the neighbour’s yard when they were attacked by one pit bull.
Three more pit bulls were set on the police officers by the deceased. They in turn threw stan grenades to stop the pit bulls but this did not work. It is then that the deceased pulled out a toy gun resulting in the police officers firing live rounds at him. He died at the scene.
”The house was searched and drugs and dagga were recovered: 8 Cristal Meth tablets, 31 mandrax tablets, and cash amounting to R471.90” says IPID.
The autopsy on the deceased is reportedly being performed today.
