Speaking about the purpose of the launch, Sithole said they are visiting different provinces to inspect and assess the effectiveness of operations.

Sihole added they returned to Welkom following the national launch of the Safer Festive Season campaign on October 15.

The Commissioner concluded by saying that the respective national and provincial launches were indicative of the police’s readiness to ensure a safer festive season to South African citizens.

Taking the podium, Cele reminded police officials that their primary duty - as stipulated in the Constitution - is to protect, combat, investigate, uphold the law, enforce the law and make sure that the inhabitants of South Africa are safe.

Cele made a call to the community to work with and support the police.

In his closing comments the Minister said police visibility must be heightened so that people can feel safe in the knowledge that they are protected.
