FS political analyst conveys condolences to Archbishop Tutu's family | News Article

The world has lost one of its leaders who stood for peace, transparency and clean governance.

This is according to the Political Analyst at the University of the Free State, Sethulego Matebesi, who further stated that Archbishop Desmond Tutu left an indelible mark in the history of South Africa.

He says future generations of the country will learn about Tutu because he did not only stand out when things were bad in the country during apartheid, but also when things were bad during the current political stance.

“Tutu stood firm in what he believed in, even when he was ill. I strongly believe South Africans will cherish his legacy forever,” said Matebesi.

"Desmond Tutu will go down in the books of South African history as one of those who have stood out and who not only fought against the apartheid government, but also fought the democratic government whenever it lost track of its moral compass."

Tutu passed away on Sunday 26 December 2021 at the age of 90.

In a statement issued by the presidency, President Cyril Ramaphosa said Tutu was a patriot without equal, a leader of principle and pragmatism who gave meaning to the biblical insight that faith without works is dead.

Ramaphosa added, “as a Chairperson of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he articulated the universal outrage at the ravages of apartheid and touchingly and profoundly demonstrated the depth of meaning of ubuntu, reconciliation and forgiveness.”
