NW Health MEC welcomed New Year babies in Klerksdorp─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 08:53 Sat, 01 Jan 2022
The North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, is this morning welcoming New Year babies at the Klerksdorp Hospital in the province.
The provincial health department says it is committed to eradicating maternal and neonatal deaths, hence the celebration of these births, which mark the beginning of 2022.
Sambatha will reportedly be presenting these new-borns and their mothers with gifts.
OFM News previously reported that a total of 143 new born babies were born on Christmas Day in 2021, whereas the Free State saw 107 Christmas births.
The vast majority of these North West Christmas births took place in the Bojanala platinum district which includes Rustenburg.
The department says 50 new born babies were birthed in that lush district.
The second district that registered highest number of Christmas new-born babies was Dr Kenneth Kaunda District with 35 babies which includes 22 boys and 13 girls.
Klerksdorp, where Sambatha will be this morning, falls under the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District.
