Last weekend, the boy was at his family home in Bloemfontein when he started sweating and vomiting excessively, and was taken to hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, medical professionals tried to save his life but couldn’t.

Police spokesperson, Mahlomola Kareli, explained the postmortem of the deceased revealed that the cause of death is allegedly poisoning. After the police were notified about the deceased’s sudden sickness and death on Saturday evening, an inquest file was registered. 

"Detectives worked tirelessly, putting pieces of information together until everything pointed to the suspect," Kareli added.

The detectives’ investigation pointed to the man, who is the boyfriend of the deceased child's mother. The 32-year-old man, who was in a relationship with the child's mother, was traced and arrested on Wednesday morning.
