Unions raise concerns over CUT─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 15:36 Fri, 11 Feb 2022
Workers' unions have raised their concerns with the Portfolio Committee of Higher Education about the demeaning conditions workers at the Central University of Technology (CUT) find themselves in.
The National Tertiary Education Union’s (NTEU) branch chairperson, and NEC member for Social Justice and Skills Development, Titus Williams, has raised issues that have placed the institution under scrutiny.
Amongst issues raised by Williams are the financial sustainability of the institution, and the safety of employees, amongst other things.
Whilst the National Education, Health, and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) has requested an investigation on the departure and disciplinary processes of the former Vice-Chancellor, including the holistic forensic investigation on procurement, staff promotion, and tenders.
Nehawu has also called on the Portfolio Committee of Higher Education to restructure registrars' divisions, to allow for the cohesive flow of roles.
OFM News has sent detailed questions and the CUT will respond soon.
