Maape was announced as the new Premier by the ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee (IPC).

This after it decided to fire former Premier Job Mokgoro after tension between him and the party took its toll.

Maape will deliver his first SOPA at the official opening of the Provincial Legislature Chamber in Mahikeng on Friday, where the sitting will be presided over by the Speaker of the Legislature - Sussana Dantjie.

Maape’s spokesperson, Sello Tatai, says in his address Premier Maape is expected to highlight the provincial government’s plans to resuscitate the economy, expedite the delivery of basic services, and the creation of jobs.

“The SOPA will be held in line with Alert Level 1 Covid-19 Lockdown regulations, with a limited number of guests expected to attend.

Members of the Provincial Legislature, the Judiciary, and Executive are expected to physically attend the official opening of the Provincial Legislature and SOPA, with other guests following the proceedings virtually,” he adds.

The SOPA will be broadcast on various media platforms and streamed live on the provincial government’s social media pages.
