Power struggle between Matjhabeng and residents intensifies─── 14:41 Wed, 16 Feb 2022
Residents of Nkandla, near Virginia in the Free State, have delivered a memorandum of demands to the Matjhabeng Municipality.
The memorandum also lists their displeasure at how the municipality is handling the housing situation.
According to residents there have been requests to meet the municipality regarding, among other issues, dishonest municipal officials.
In a letter sent to the Mayor, they alluded to the fact that there have been numerous meetings with the previous administration, which promised to come back to residents with answers to their complaints and queries.
Nothing has, however, been done for the past four years.
Meanwhile, according to spokesperson Shima Mohohlo, Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Housing, Christina Radebe, took a decision to cut electricity to Nkandla residents as they owe the municipality R11 million in outstanding debt.
