Motion of no confidence against the MAP troika─── 14:17 Thu, 24 Feb 2022
After less than three months in power, the troika, at the helm of the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality, is already facing a motion of no confidence.
Two opposition parties in the council – the ANC and African Transformation Movement (ATM) - tabled a motion of no confidence against the Executive Mayor Gilbert Mokotso, Speaker Paratlane Motloung, and Council Whip Moeketsi Lebesa, for failing to unite the other political parties.
The municipal council is governed by a coalition with the civil organisation Maluti-A-Phofung 16 (MAP 16) at the head.
In an interview with OFM News, Lebesa confirmed the motion has been tabled.
He said he wonders how they are expected to unite the political parties in just three months, even when the state president can't do so.
He said, in terms of section 32 of the Municipal Systems Act, opposition parties have a right to complain, but this is too soon.
