The department of Police, Roads, and Transport in the Free State has warned owners of the impounded vehicles to come forward and discharge them before they are destroyed.
According to the department's Mangaliso Xaba, owners still have an opportunity to pay for their vehicles and release them.
Xaba says the vehicles should have been destroyed earlier.
He says the owners will receive letters, but if there is no response within 14 days, their vehicles will be destroyed.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, the MEC for the Department, William Bulwane said he is considering increasing the fines to those whose vehicles have been impounded.
