Unknown disease hits North West school | News Article

Teaching and learning was disrupted this morning at Lore Primary School, situated in Itsoseng near Lichtenburg in North West.

This followed after some learners developed an itching rash on Tuesday. The morning situation worsened when a large number of learners and two educators developed symptoms that include shortness of breath, headaches, and dizziness.

The school’s management agreed to suspend teaching and learning and alerted parents that classes would resume this coming Monday, as they want to observe the situation.

The school also alerted the Department of Health regarding this matter.

Most of the learners have been transported to the Itsoseng Health Centre with ambulances for treatment.

Learners not showing symptoms are being monitored by their parents at home.

The Department of Education’s spokesperson, Elias Malindi, says they are aware of the situation, but "still waiting for reports of what has transpired, as they are working closely with the Department of Health on this matter."
