Driving school owners demand scrapping of online system─── 10:12 Tue, 08 Mar 2022
Driving school owners say they will continue with their protest action at driving license testing stations around Pretoria.
They say the centres will not operate until their grievances are fully addressed.
The drivers are unhappy about the online booking system which is aimed at cutting long queues and eliminating corruption at the centres.
They say technical issues are adversely affecting their clients, and they want to go back to the manual system.
On Monday, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula warned that unruly behaviour would not be tolerated and that law enforcement officials would deal harshly with those causing disruption.
Meanwhile, a number of Driving License Testing Centres (DLTCs) across Gauteng are still not operational due to an ongoing strike by driving school operators.
In Johannesburg, a few DLTCs have opened. These include Langlaagte, Randburg, Roodepoort, and Sandton.
Driving school operators are aggrieved about the online booking systems introduced in 2018, aimed at cutting long queues and eliminating corruption at the centres.
