Free State Health to only continue with essential surgeries | News Article

The Free State Department of Health is still forced to perform only high-risk, life-threatening surgeries and essential health services due to the ongoing water challenge Mangaung is experiencing.

This is despite the Mangaung Metro Municipality informing the community that the troubled Welbedacht Dam pipeline has been repaired. The departmental spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, explained in a statement that some of their facilities have been without water for the past seven days. Some of the affected facilities are the Universitas Hospital, the Pelonomi Hospital, and the Government Mortuary. The department is keeping an eye on developments.

Mvambi explained they are dedicated to continue to render quality health services to the people that are dependent on them, with no other alternatives. He further explained, that in the context of health, water plays a vital role in ensuring infection prevention and control
