Matjhabeng in focus in NCOP sitting─── 10:50 Fri, 25 Mar 2022
The challenges affecting service delivery at the Matjhabeng Local Municipality in the Free State, are in focus on Friday.
This as members of the National Parliament and the Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) sits for a second day in Bloemfontein to address service delivery and governance failures.
Matjhabeng mayor, Thanduxolo Khalipha, and the MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) in the Free State, Mxolisi Dukwana, are among the few officials in attendance at the sitting. Cogta head, Mokete Duma, just delivered his department’s update on the state of the municipality.
The NCOP select committee sitting comes amidst the ninth day of water shortages in many parts of the capital city and a significant 76% water loss at the Matjhabeng Local Municipality.
OFM News has previously reported on the alleged financial inadequacies and administration mismanagement of the municipality. The meeting is set to address many of these issues. This is a developing story.
