Mangaung pressure groups have been slapped with court interdicts following recent protests at the Mangaung Metro Municipality’s headquarters in Bloemfontein, Free State.

OFM News reported on the torching of two refuse removal trucks and an office belonging to the embattled metro’s Supply Chain Division.

Both Mangaung Service Delivery Forum (MSDF) and Mangaung Concerned Community (MCC) have had several protests on issues including service delivery, job opportunities, and the availability of land. The MSDF chairperson, Potso Motoko, said they received the court interdict on Thursday after handing over their memorandum of demands to the mayor, Mxolisi Siyonzana, and the Cogta MEC, Mxolisi Dukwana.

“Our position is very clear. We are going to contest the court interdict. We will be approaching our legal team to see how we are going to approach it. We cannot be denied access to speak on behalf of our constituency. The constitutional infringement is pure and clear,” said Potso.

Meanwhile some members of MCC confirmed to OFM News that they also received the court interdict, however, they are firstly going to deal with the issue of some of their members who were arrested and appeared in court on Friday. Their case has been postponed to 29 March. The arrested suspects remain in custody.
