Free State residents stranded after their houses were demolished─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:50 Mon, 04 Apr 2022
Residents of the Mantsopa Local Municipality in the Free State have been urged to bring their plans to the municipal building directorate for approval before building their houses to ensure they meet the required building standards.
This comes after some community members were left frustrated this past weekend after their houses were destroyed by a contractor. According to the statement issued by municipality, the Mantsopa Local Municipality's inspector, Ramokopu Mahlomaholo, ordered the contractor to demolish some of the houses in Platberg as they were not in compliance with South African building standards.

OFM News previously reported on the 84-year-old Masabata Sekhuthe who was stranded after being informed by the Mantsopa Local Municipality that she needs to move out of her house because it was built on top of Eskom power supply cables. But, instead she decided to get herself a lawyer and to fight the municipality.
Sekhuthe had refused to move to houses that were offered by the municipality because the houses were smaller than the ones that they were told to move from.
