#UFS #fire: More suspects arrested─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 06:23 Thu, 07 Apr 2022

Three more suspects have been arrested, linked to a fire that broke out at the University of the Free State's (UFS) Qwaqwa campus earlier this week.
Free State police spokesperson, Mmako Mophiring, says more arrests will follow as police are still following leads. Mophiring adds that all four suspects will be appearing in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate's Court on Thursday. He says the suspects are facing charges of arson and malicious damage to property.

OFM News previously reported UFS spokesperson, Lacea Loader, told OFM News that the preliminary findings of urgent investigations that were conducted by police and the university's protection service indicated that the two buildings inside campus were intentionally set alight on Monday evening.

The two buildings, which housed the clinic and laboratory, were almost destroyed and damages to both buildings are estimated at R35 million.

Students have been unhappy about payments of allowances that they are yet to receive from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). OFM News previously reported that two students were allegedly shot at with rubber bullets, by police officers, during a protest march at the UFS main campus in Bloemfontein on Monday.
