Free State police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following an accident which claimed three lives on the N1 road between Winburg and Verkeerdevlei earlier on Sunday.
Police spokesperson in the Free State, Stephen Thakeng, says that two trucks were travelling in opposite directions next to the Kareeboom Bridge, when a head-on collision took place at about 04:30 this morning.
Thakeng adds that both truck drivers were certified dead at the scene.
The third deceased was discovered after extracting the bodies from the wrecks.
Meanwhile, Free State Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Sipho Towa, had earlier told OFM News that the N1 road is completely closed, as one truck is leaking fuel.

Thakeng has advised motorists to use alternative routes.
