After an interruption of two years as a result of the pandemic, Kimberley will again host the biggest schools rugby, soccer and netball tournament in Africa, if not in the world.

The prestigious Absa Wildeklawer Sport tournament has grown since 2009 and is expected to bring an enormous economic boost to Kimberley in the Northern Cape, amounting to about R100 million.

The Northern Cape Premier, Zamani Saul, together with the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality Mayor, Kagisho Sonyoni, attended the media launch of the 2022 Absa Wildeklawer Sport Tournament in Kimberley.

According to the statement issued by the provincial government, the tournament will take place from 25 April to 2 May 2022, with 182 teams from 85 schools across the country. Saul highlighted the importance of government joining hands with the private sector to boost the economy of the province, especially following the devastating impact of Covid-19. Saul adds that the tournament has produced many sport stars and that this year will be no different.
