Pensioner in court for allegedly raping a child─── 22:00 Tue, 10 May 2022
A 60-year-old man appeared in court on Tuesday for raping an 11-year-old.
The pensioner from Tsheseng in Qwaqwa was identified by the victim, who knows him from the neighbourhood. The child explained to the police that she was raped at a dilapidated house in the area.
SAPS spokesperson Mmako Mophiring tells OFM News that on Thursday 5 May 2022, at about 16:45, the grandmother of the victim pressed charges on behalf of the victim. Mophiring explains that the grandmother had sent the minor to a nearby shop to buy a cold drink, and was surprised when the girl got home without it.
He further explains that it is alleged that the suspect grabbed the girl on her way to the shop. The accused allegedly claimed to have a mental illness and did not want to be held accountable for the crime. He allegedly blamed the incident on his supposed condition. He was remanded in custody for legal aid and a formal bail application.
