Mangaung opposition weighs in on #ANCvsANC saga | News Article

Opposition parties at the troubled Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality have weighed in on the tit for tat saga between the council speaker and her political party the ANC.

On Tuesday OFM News reported that the ANC’s Interim Regional Committee (IRC) in Mangaung notified Stefanie Lockman-Naidoo of disciplinary proceedings against her.

The DA caucus leader in council, Johan Pretorius, says the party is not surprised by the action. Freedom Front Plus' Elizabeth Synman Van Deventer, says the regional ANC is using intimidation and bullying tactics-not only against Lockman-Naidoo but against all councillors who are trying to make a difference by fighting corruption.

“The ANC is corrupt in their DNA and that is why they would rather try to prosecute a councillor like the speaker, who is fighting corruption instead of fighting the source of the alleged corruption, - the suspended Head of the Department (HOD). I really can’t understand how you could allow somebody to get away with issues, where there is proof, for example, of payments made to a law firm for work never done, and payments made to the ghost workers, etc. Why would you not protect councillors like Lockman-Naidoo who wants to make changes and get rid of corruption?” says Synman Van Deventer.

The DA’s Pretorius says the ANC is only persecuting Lockman-Naidoo because officials are being criminally charged by the Council.

“It is clear that the ANC wants to protect corrupt officials. It is also clear that the Mangaung Metro Municipality is overrun by ANC officials that hold office at the Metro and has positions in the ANC.”

OFM News previously reported that Lockman-Naidoo labelled the ANC charges against her as nothing but a witch-hunt.

The ANC IRC spokesperson, Ncamisa Ngxangisa, refused to comment on the alleged charges against Lockman-Naidoo.
