DA offers solution to Road Accident Fund─── 13:40 Thu, 26 May 2022
It is unfair to place the burden of the Road Accident Fund (RAF) on the vast majority of drivers because of the minority of drivers who don’t follow the rules of the road.
This is according to Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow Minister of Energy Kevin Mileham (MP) as he was addressing the increase of fuel prices.
“What we are proposing is a third-party insurance, where you take out a third-party insurance and prove to SARS that you have paid your third-party insurance. On your tax return, you will be able to claim your fuel purchases, and the RAF levy back” Mileham adds.
“While it does not address the problems of the RAF, it addresses the problem that every single road user and every person who buys petrol is paying for the dysfunctionality of the RAF. It addresses the problem by ensuring that you as the driver or road user, are responsible for your own insurance if you are involved in an accident” Mileham concluded.
