UFS celebrates Africa Month | News Article

The University of the Free State has introduced a UFS Multilingual Hub and UFS African Languages Press.

This, through their Academy for Multilingualism in collaboration with the UFS library and Information Services. The aim of this hub is to centralize the provision of multilingual services and respond to multilingual needs of the university’s stakeholders.

Jeanette Molopyane from the university tells of OFM News that the university applied for funding from the Interpreted Transformation Plan (ITP) for this project, and was funded with R250 000. She further says their intention to start the Press is to collect and preserve the African Heritage.

Molopyane explains that they will be going to Africa and will make sure that they bring back the dignity of African languages and put them on raider like any other globally established language. Also, she says they will be starting with Sesotho for now, and isiZulu thereafter. Furthermore, she explained that the end goal is to include all 11 South African languages.

“I also want to thank Doctor Makgetha for also gracing this occasion with his wealth of experience. So at least now we are going to get mentors as well for this special project of ours”.
