The budget vote was postponed due to fear of disruptions after the pressure group, Mangaung Concerned Community (MCC), expressed their concerns over how the budget allegedly did not have the community’s input.

MCC leader, Themba Zweni, explained to OFM News that as per law, the budget vote needs to have the community’s input. He says, however, the Metro’s management assured him that multiple community engagements did indeed take place.

The Metro’s executive council was earlier this year stripped of its powers when the National Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) intervened.

Zweni stated that they only requested for proof that the meetings did take place, and the proof would include attendance registers together with the minutes so that they can be certain that the broader community of Mangaung did give an input in the budget vote.
