Running water restored after 14 years─── 12:05 Mon, 13 Jun 2022
For the first time in 14 years, Ward 10 in Tseki, in the Maluti-A-Phofung municipality in the Free State, has running water.
There are also pipeline plans to ensure that the rest of the municipality gets this essential service, Maluti-A-Phofung municipality's spokesperson, Thabo Khesa, says.
Residents have been promised better services under the coalition leadership headed by MAP16. This follows interventions from Bloem Water to assist MAP Water.
A Tseki resident, Maria Mokoena, says they are very grateful for this essential service, which was starting to seem like a dream that would never materialise.
“I don’t remember when we last had running water in the house. My 10-year-old son is seeing this for the first time, and it’s very fascinating to him because since he was born we’d collect water from rivers, or collect storm water. If we were lucky we’d get it from JoJo tanks. At some point we felt really disrespected because we were told that the tanks were not clean, there were things like diapers inside. But because we were desperate, we would still get the water even though it meant that the water might not be clean enough for consumption”.
Meanwhile, MAP16 spokesperson, Paratlane Motloung, says coalition parties came together to find ways of making stable water supply in the Maluti-A-Phofung municipality sustainable. He explains that electricity is one of the biggest issues affecting water supply, which will soon be resolved as the municipality is undergoing negotiations with Eskom.
