The legally embattled MM, Pule Tsekedi, recently took the council to court to challenge his removal by the council weeks ago. 

It’s understood that a High Court judge dismissed this application with costs and then ordered that Tsekedi vacate his office by Friday 10 June 2022. He argued in court that council members did not have a right to suspend him, however, the court dismissed the argument and sent him packing. His removal comes as the municipality struggles to pay the salaries of workers and to maintain the municipal fleet, amongst others. 

In 2021, OFM News reported that another previous mayor and MM at the municipality were both removed from their posts by council.

Following this court outcome against the MM, lawyers wrote to the municipality informing Tsekedi to vacate office before Friday 10 June, and that action will be taken against him should he fail to do so. 

OFM News understands that he has since vacated the office and a new acting municipal manager has been identified for the position of MM.
