Hope lies with refurbished Free State clinic | News Article

The reopening of a newly refurbished Free State clinic is expected to address issues of patient backlogs.

Free State Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says the official opening of the newly built Parys Clinic will take place on Tuesday - and shortly thereafter the public outreach campaign, known as "Taking Primary Health Care Services to the People", will launch in an open space next to Phellehang Secondary School in Tumahole, Parys.

He says the opening of the Parys Clinic is a significant service delivery milestone.

Mvambi says the old building of the Parys Clinic was situated within the Ngwathe Municipal Building, built in 1970, and the layout and size of the old facility did not comply with the ideal clinic standards.

According to him, the pharmacy of the old facility was outside the clinic and patients were exposed to all types of weather conditions while waiting for their medication.

Mvambi adds that since the dawn of democracy, the community has been requesting better facilities and this led the department to initiate negotiations with Sasol mine for funding of about R12.5 million and for Ngwathe Municipality to assist with land in order to build facilities that will comply with required standards.

Meanwhile, Mvambi says the newly-built clinic will operate as an 8-hour primary healthcare facility. He also says Tuesday's event will see the Ngwathe Local Municipality receive fire engines, and rescue and rapid response vehicles valued at about R3 million, from the Sasol mine.
