According to NUMSA National Spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, Mahlomola Hlothoane happens to be the second NUMSA official to be murdered in the same way.

Hlothoane assisted the union by coordinating recruitment and mobilizing workers at Implats.

The first official to be murdered also filled a similar position.

“NUMSA is hopeful that justice will prevail and the police must ensure that the community of Rustenburg, particularly in the immediate surrounding area of Implats, is safe for all who live there.”

In a statement, issued on behalf of NUMSA General Secretary, Irvin Jim, it is explained that since Malibongwe Mdazo’s murder next year, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder.

NUMSA demands that the SAPS urgently find and arrest those who are responsible for the murders.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened as a trade union that we have lost a leader who was dedicated to the struggle of workers. We send our deepest condolences to his family who have lost a breadwinner and father.”
