Six behind bars for attempted robbery─── 08:16 Sun, 10 Jul 2022
Six suspects are expected to appear in the Barkley West Magistrate’s Court on Monday, on counts of conspiracy to commit a robbery as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
This follows after Northern Cape Organised Crime Detectives, assisted by the Kimberley Flying Squad, Kimberley K9 Unit, and Warrenton Visible police members, foiled a possible armed robbery.
According to a statement by SAPS spokesperson Olebogeng Tawana, the suspects were reportedly on a mission to execute an armed robbery near Warrenton.
On Saturday the team of law enforcement officials intercepted the suspects' vehicle and searched it. The suspects were found in possession of four unlicensed firearms.
Meanwhile, the Northern Cape Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Brigadier Nicky Mills, commended the team for acting promptly to bring the perpetrators to book - also indicating that the proliferation of firearms will be vigorously enforced in the province.
