The event celebrates music in the country to honour artists, and was held virtually for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

HM Entertainment's Comfort Nkosi says the event will be held on 28 August and will air on national television.

The SAMA event has previously received great attendance at Sun City near Rustenburg, with music lovers and fashion gurus gracing the occasion. The North West provincial government has also been utilising the event to help boost the economy of the province.

North West Department of Arts and Culture spokesperson, Shuping Sebolecwe, told OFM news that this year the department will not be funding the event, but he did not elaborate on reasons.

Recording Industry of South Africa's  chief executive officer, Nhlanhla Sibisi, says the return to Sun City is exciting and palpable, indicating that the musical showcase will be a show-stopper.
