Shots were reportedly fired and a security vehicle set alight.

It is reported this chaos followed after the municipality appointed a new security company to guard its premises in Lichtenburg.

Speaking to OFM News, municipal spokesperson Pius Batsile confirmed that there had been a confrontation "between security personnel and municipal employees, after the security officials denied the employees access to the building".

The situation has since returned to normal and is calm at this stage.
