Public Protector urged to investigate Patricia de Lille─── 15:53 Tue, 19 Jul 2022
The Public Protector has reportedly been urged to investigate the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia de Lille.
The DA’s Shadow Minister of Public Works, Samantha Graham-Maré, raised her concern regarding the amount of money being spent on generators for ministers while the country battles severe load-shedding.
“We sent a complaint to the Public Protector, which addresses the contravention of the guide for members of the executive, which regulates the allowances and benefits for each member in the executive. And in terms of that, sub-section five requires that the department responsible for public works shall be responsible for the costs associated with the provision of water and electricity to state-owned residences, provided that such a cost is limited to R5 000 per month, per state-owned residence. Any cost in excess of that will then belong to the relevant member”.
