Sol Plaatje Municipality promises to sort out rates problems─── 15:58 Mon, 01 Aug 2022
Residents of the Sol Plaatje Municipality are advised to check their tariff increases for the month of July.
The municipality’s Communications Manager, Thoko Riet, told OFM News on Monday morning that community members who were charged more than the approved rate increases for July should visit the municipality with supporting documents.
This follows a complaint from a member of the Sol Plaatje Ratepayers’ Union (SOPRU), Tumelo Mosikare, that some households were charged 6,88% on their July municipal bill, which is more than the approved rate increase.
Riet told OFM News the resolution of the council was 4% rate increase for water and 4,5% rate increase for electricity. “Whoever was charged more than the 4% and 4,5% should come to our offices. It will be calculated and we will look into it and a reversal will be made to the account.”
Riet said the refunds should be expected at the end of the following month, depending on when the error was made.
