North West government vows to assist youth | News Article

The North West Premier has called on the state-owned entities, municipalities and the private sector to join hands with provincial government to ensure that they help eradicate poverty by creating job opportunities for youth.

Premier Bushy Maape, speaking at a youth summit that was held at Rustenburg in the Bojanala District earlier this week, committed himself in prioritising youth developmental programmes within the province. 

In a statement, he expressed his disappointment on the fact that years later the is still high unemployment rate amongst young people in the province and country at large. He said high unemployment has spilled over, creating social ills confronting the youth.

Maape further called on young people to develop plans and initiatives that will bring change in the province and eradicate poverty and all other social ills that are caused by poverty and unemployment. 

He said that young people have power to turn things around and they should do that by fulfilling a dream that will see them thrive by being active in the economy.

Maape reiterated that the provincial government is committed to the development of young people and will provide resources and funds that will assist them to realise their dreams.

Meanwhile, Maape had previously confirmed that a total of R7 billion was secured into the province as part of plans to grow the economy. This following his engagements with representatives of Harmony mine.

He added that the provincial government has been engaging with the private sector to lure them to invest in the province, in order to deal with challenges of unemployment - which currently stands around 35%.
