NW ANC's provincial conference yet to be concluded | News Article

The North West ANC held its provincial conference at the Rustenburg Civic Centre this past weekend, where delegates voted for the new top five who will lead in the province.

Irate members of the ANC, who on Friday successfully interdicted the Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) members’ voting powers at the ANC's ninth provincial conference underway in Rustenburg in North West, have expressed that they are delighted about the outcome. OFM News has learned that the court has also interdicted the voting powers of the members of the Interim Regional Committee (IRC).

OFM News reported that delegates to the ANC's ninth provincial conference finally started voting for the new leaders in the province on Saturday. After the voting of the top five positions, the conference will now be adjourned for two weeks and the rest of the proceedings will take place from 25 August 2022.

A Member of Parliament, Nono Maloyi, was elected chairperson of the ANC in the North West. He defeated the current premier, Bushy Maape, in the leadership election at the party's provincial conference in Rustenburg. Maloi gathered 374 votes against Maape's 294. The results of the election of the top five leadership positions were announced on Monday.

SABC News further reports that the proceedings for 25 August 2022 will include, among other things, the election of the additional executive committee members. The provincial congress started significantly later than initially planned, due to irregularities with accreditation, a slow registration process, and threats by members to force the conference to a halt.

OFM News on Sunday reported that President Cyril Ramaphosa was expected to address the conference but Bapela said as the plan has changed, this will happen when the official closing happens in two weeks' time.

Meanwhile, as reported by OFM News, Nomvula Mokonyane said there have been incidents of tags cloning, citing individuals have invaded the registration centre, before grabbing the administrator and managing to run off with some identification tags of delegates.

It was later found that the tags were cloned, however, Mokonyane says because of the security features they were able to spot the cloned tags after they were discovered by members of the ANC Youth League.
