The driver who was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of five learners at the Vyfhoek Primary School in North West was not arrested.

Provincial police spokesperson, Aafje Botma, tells OFM News that the police did give a warning statement to the truck driver who was involved in the Vyfhoek tragedy. She says a case of culpable homicide is being investigated and the docket will be handed over to the public prosecutor to make a decision.

OFM News previously reported that the 12-year-old Tebogo Motsemme, 9-year-old Thando Lewane, 9-year-old Cristina Mashai, 8-year-old Orenele Seroalo, and 7-year-old Mahlohonolo Mapheto passed away on Thursday 18 August 2022 after being run over by a truck. The mini truck which was travelling from Potchefstroom towards Johannesburg on the N12 road reportedly overturned after its front wheel burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The mini truck went straight through the school fence plunging into nine learners and killing five. The other four learners were taken to hospital.
