#NationalShutdown: Workers arrive at Free State premier's office - WATCH─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:38 Wed, 24 Aug 2022
Cosatu members and its tripartite alliance members, as well as Nehawu and Samwu, have arrived at the OR Tambo House in Bloemfontein following their shutdown march.
Workers and the leadership of unions are set to hand over a memorandum after they marched from Batho in Bloemfontein on Tuesday morning. Issues contained in the memorandum, include the high fuel levy, high unemployment and poverty.
These workers were joined by some of Cosatu's leaders, including its Deputy General Secretary, Solly Phetoe, among others. The leadership of various unions have expressed their positions on the shutdown march.
The MEC for Agriculture, Thembeni Nxangisa, is set to receive the memorandum from union leaders on behalf of Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela.
Different speakers have urged Ntombela to take the demands from the workers serious. Some have backed Cosatu to continue with the war against high unemployment and poverty across the country. They want the government to change policies and make sure the lives of the marginalised and the poor, in particular, are improved.
