Former bookkeeper in court for alleged fraud─── 12:58 Mon, 29 Aug 2022
The fraud case against a bookkeeper from Kimberley has been postponed to 2 November 2022, for transferral to the Kimberley Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
This is according to Northern Cape SAPS spokesperson, Tebogo Thebe, who explains that Lazarus William Meas (48) appeared before the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Monday 29 August 2022.
Meas was summoned for alleged fraud by the Hawks. The Hawks are the South African Police Services' Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), which targets organised crime, economic crime, and corruption.
Thebe says the former bookkeeper at RK Henderson & Associates was allegedly involved in unlawful acts with intentions to defraud the Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in 2009, where he submitted a nil income tax return, leading to SARS suffering an actual prejudice.
“Allegations are that in 2009, the accused did unlawfully and with the intent to defraud, made a misrepresentation to the Commissioner of the South African Revenue Services and submitted a nil income tax return. The accused knew that he received an amount of more than R2 000 000 and SARS suffered actual prejudice amounting to R856 609,” concluded Thebe.
