Fire Warning Index on red alert for Central South Africa─── 12:50 Fri, 23 Sep 2022
Following the series of wildfires that occurred during this year's fire season, the regular fire warnings seem to have simmered down. However, citizens of Central South Africa are still encouraged to be on high alert this weekend with Heritage Day.
“For today, fires warnings are less in comparison with Thursday. There was a fire warning for the northeastern part of the Northern Cape and for Saturday and Sunday there will be a high possibility of fire dangers over the entire central interior of South Africa, except for the eastern and south-eastern parts of the Free State and the south-western parts of the Northern Cape," says Quinton Jacobs of the South African Weather Office.
The fire warning index is on red alert for most parts of central South Africa, but on Sunday the index will be less intense for certain parts of the Free State province and the North West due to the possibility of thunderstorms over the weekend.
