The Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, has set the record straight following confusion over the building of houses for victims of the Jagersfontein disaster, which struck the area three weeks ago.

Speaking at the funeral service of the 78-year-old Ralehana Aaron Mosoue on Saturday 24 September 2022, Ntombela announced they would commence with the construction of new houses for affected victims of Jagersfontein on Monday 26 September 2022.

Questions mounted following her announcement, however, Ntombela has since clarified that the provincial government began with the construction of only four houses on Monday 26 September 2022 through Alternative Building Technology (ABT).

She stated that the four houses will serve as show houses so that affected residents will get an opportunity to choose a preferred plan before houses are built. This will only happen after the approval of the list of beneficiaries.

Ntombela has since confirmed that the construction of new houses for victims will be completed before the end of December 2022.

The spokesperson for the Office of the Premier, Palesa Chubisi, says that during a special Executive Council (Exco) meeting about the disaster held on Monday, 26 September 2022, Ntombela emphasised the importance of fast-tracking the process to ensure the rebuilding of the lives of the victims affected by the disaster.
