Northern Cape father accused of rape remains in custody─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:07 Wed, 28 Sep 2022
The case against the father who is accused of raping his daughter in the Northern Cape has been postponed for bail application.
The 47-year-old father appeared before the Galeshewe District Court on 27 September 2022, where he is facing three charges of raping his 21-year-old daughter. Provincial National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokotsoane, says the matter has been postponed to 5 October 2022 for confirmation of the accused bail information and possible bail application. He explained that the bail application, which was scheduled to take place on 27 September 2022, was postponed as three possible addresses of the accused could not be confirmed by the investigation officer. Senokotsoane adds that the prosecution will oppose this bail application, given the severity of the charges against the accused in this schedule 6 offence.
According to Senokotsoane, the accused allegedly started raping his daughter when she was 9 years old and only stopped when the daughter reported the matter to the police. He says the 21-year-old daughter only reported the matter this year and the accused was arrested and charged with rape. Senokotsoane further says that the accused has remained in custody while the investigation of the case will continue.

Senokotsoane also confirmed that a rape case against an alleged Northern Cape bogus doctor was postponed for further investigations following his appearance in Kimberley District court earlier this week.
Meanwhile, the provincial government is expected to host a two-day summit against gender-based violence (GBV), from the 28th to 29th of September 2022. According to the statement issued by the provincial government, the summit is anticipated to create a platform of engagement to reflect critically on initiatives to date, identify actions for improvement, and align different initiatives to create mechanisms and processes that would effect coordination, planning and the implementation of the fight against GBV.
