Water returning to Kimberley taps after repairs─── 06:16 Mon, 10 Oct 2022
The spokesperson for the Sol Plaatje Municipality in Kimberley, Thoko Riet, says all repairs carried out since Thursday are now complete and that pumping at the Riverton Water Purification Works has started.
"We are currently filling the line. Once the line is filled, we will start to open the water supply. The areas getting a direct feed from Riverton, Roodepan and Galeshewe, will be the first areas to have a water supply. Following that, we will begin pumping for the high-lying areas."
Riet warns that residents will see the water have a "brownish" color, which is caused by the rusted pipes and the mud from the repairs.

"Residents are therefore urged to allow water to run from the taps for a minute or two to allow it to clear. The fire hydrants around the city will also be opened to release all discoloured water. Residents are also urged to open taps slowly to release the air from pipes to avoid bursts.
"The distribution of water around the city is ongoing. The teams are working around the clock to ensure all wards are supplied with water until the water supply is restored in all areas," she says.
"We want to thank the residents of Sol Plaatje Municipality for their patience and understanding."
