Good news for those that want to save on energy costs | News Article

Green & You recently did an installation for Die Akker Koffiehuis in Potchefstroom. Bertus Els, owner of Die Akker, wanted to get away from the high energy tariffs and therefore decided on a solar grid-tied system.

Green & You monitored the power consumption and peaks at Die Akker in detail in order to determine the correct size for the system. because restaurants are operational during the day, solar power is the ideal solution.

The perks

Asked what the greatest benefit of the new solar system is, Bertus says: “It is great to get the monthly electricity bill these days and see that the total is a fraction of what it used to be.” There is also a handy app that Bertus uses to see his savings and generation in real time.

The water situation

In recent weeks, Potchefstroom and various other areas have had large scale water shortages. Many of Engel & Völkers’s clients were without water in multiple areas in Potchefstroom. Since then, Green & You have been getting more and more enquiries about water back-up systems. The reality is that water is a limited resource and load shedding has affected the reservoir levels countrywide (due to interruptions in the pumping of water to the reservoirs).

The solutions for water back-up

Water back-up is a hot topic. Luckily, the team at Green & You has a few solutions for clients. It is good to remember that water is not guaranteed and therefore it is a wise decision to start working on and planning for your water security now.

Rainwater

The first solution is rainwater harvesting. Even if you don’t need it for household back-up – it is an excellent chemical free source of water for your garden and veggie garden. Of course, this also ‘saves’ clean drinking water for other uses. Another advantage of rainwater harvesting is that if there is ever a need, then you have water stored. The Green & You team can assist you to utilize this water in your household when the need arises.

Municipal back-up

The second solution is municipal back-up: a water tank with a pump. Municipal water flows directly to your tank and then feeds through to your house. This means that your tank is always filled with fresh water. Green & You currently installs a lot of water back-up systems – up to three a day in Tuscany Ridge Estate, Potchefstroom.

Borehole water

The third solution is for clients that are in the privileged position to have a borehole. Clients that want to utilize their boreholes can get the water tested and treated by Green & You. A very important point is that treatment is almost always necessary due to groundwater pollution. When a water crisis arises, then at least you know you have consumption-safe water on hand.
