According to the police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, the doctor was kidnapped in his Renault Duster after two armed men forced themselves into the doctor's home where he was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and his cell phones.

“The doctor was forced from his home and kidnapped. The suspects drove his white Renault Duster with its Free State registration number,” said Thakeng.

He added that the incident happened on Monday at about 19:30. The doctor's 27-year-old wife drove to the shop with her two daughters, aged 2 and 5, since it was load-shedding. On their return home, she was busy parking the vehicle inside the garage.

She apparently heard the 5-year-old daughter scream for help and saw an unknown male pointing a firearm at the 5-year-old child. The second male was also seen armed with a handgun.

The search was initiated and with the help of its Tracker, the vehicle was found abandoned at the corner of Craib and Blenheim Streets in Riebeeckstad, Welkom. The doctor's body was found at 23:00 Monday night, six meters from the vehicle, with shot wounds in his head and chest. He was certified dead and his hands were still tied behind his back.

Cases of house robbery and murder have been registered for further investigation.
