Employees brave the rain for wellness day─── HEIDRÈ MALGAS 12:00 Fri, 04 Nov 2022
At the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Centre in Zamdela, Sasolburg, employees of the Metsimaholo Municipality braved the rain and participated in several sporting events Friday morning in a wellness day campaign the municipality is running.
The municipal spokesperson, Gino Alberts, says more than 700 employees agreed that rain or no rain, they will be participating in these different sporting codes that include athletics, soccer and aerobics.
“Other activities, which include voluntary HIV/Aids counselling and testing, blood pressure testing, eye testing and many more, are also part of today’s wellness campaign,” Alberts said.
He added that this event is being done to ensure that employees are on top of things when it comes to their health and their well-being and also to build good relationships between employees and employers.
“It is very important for employees to have these types of events because it enables them to get to know each other better outside of the workspace, and to build better working relationships,” he added.
He added that he wants to encourage other municipalities to do the same because this could improve work ethic. As municipalities, they have a responsibility to look at the well-being of their employees.
The Wellness Day celebrations are held annually for all the employees of the municipality. This event will not impact service delivery and essential services will also be rendered for the day. The importance of the event is for the well-being of employees and to take care of themselves. Check on their mental health and financial health, including physical fitness.
