Two suspects are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court for the theft of copper cables worth R67 000.
The suspects were caught by the Kimberley Visible Policing Unit during random search and crime prevention duties in the Kimberley Central Business District.
When police approached the suspects’ vehicle, they found copper cables weighing 68kg and one suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Since they failed to prove the ownership of the cables, the suspects were charged with damaging essential infrastructure under the Criminal Amendment Act and were locked behind bars on 10 November 2022.
