Centlec bears the cost of vandalism | News Article

The Mangaung Metro Municipality’s power utility, Centlec, says continued acts of vandalism come with a heavy price.

This follows after two of four suspects caught red-handed with an electrical transformer, were successfully apprehended.

Centlec spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, says the entity has been stretched financially by criminals who continue to vandalise their stations. Mamatu adds the money used to repair these vandalised stations should have been used to improve infrastructure.

“These incidents have been affecting our network and infrastructure throughout the city. We are very concerned about the damage this vandalism is having on our network,” he adds.

Mamatu adds Centlec had to double up its security as a precautionary measure, which led to the apprehension of the suspects in the latest incident.

OFM previously reported that the Chief of Security Services at the entity received a tip-off that four men were seen near a dumping site pushing an electrical transformer in a trolley.
