According to a statement by the Matjhabeng Municipality’s Matutle Kgojane, it is suspected that the outage is a result of the heavy thunderstorm. Eskom's team of technicians are on-site addressing the fault.

"Unfortunately, there is no restoration time available and it is not currently possible to obtain levels due to the ongoing requirement to determine the degree of the damage," he said.

Riebeeckstad, Hennenman and Ventersburg are likely to not get water supply due to the electricity outage at the Balkfontein plant.

This can go as far as affecting other areas such as Welkom, Thabong and Odendaalsrus, should the power restoration takes longer.
